We charge a flat fee of £65 +VAT for a medical records check and report. Your shooting club or organisation may provide a discount code, please check with them for details.
As a reminder of what will happen next, we’ll be requesting a copy of your medical records, and when we receive a complete set of these one of our GPs will complete your medical proforma. We’ll send that to you via email – and via post if you wish – so that you can submit this to the police along with the rest of your licensing paperwork. Please note that due to the licensing requirements we cannot submit the medical proforma to the police on your behalf.
Seeing the progress of your order
You can log into your account at any time to check on the progress of your order. Your account will be updated at major milestones, such as when we’ve received your records and when our doctor is reviewing them. You’ll also receive an automated email when your order is complete and your report has been emailed to you. If you have any queries at any point you can email us at info@medcert.co.uk , or call us between 10am – 3pm weekdays on 0208 063 4503.
Timeframes and NHS backlogs
On average our service takes 6-8 weeks to complete. However, some record holders (such as GP surgeries) are still experiencing issues due to high volumes of patients, staff sickness and the general NHS backlog, and cannot provide patient records to us within their legal 30-day timeframe.
This is obviously very frustrating and our staff, with the aid of our legal team, do everything they can to get records from surgeries quickly and efficiently. However despite our every effort some records holders are still taking longer than usual to send records to us – and in some cases have not taken the time to compile a full patient record, resulting in the need for a UK-wide search for medical history! MedCert cannot be held responsible for delays created by your records holder and rudeness or aggression towards our staff will not be tolerated.
If you have your own records
Please email info@medcert.co.uk in the first instance with details of what you have available. Please do not send your records to this address. In some cases, for example if you have only been provided with a summary, we may still need to contact your doctor to obtain a complete set of records.
This depends on your licensing authority. Normally it is up to three months before your renewal date, or earlier if you have explicit permission from your firearms officer. We recommend applying a minimum of two months before your renewal.
All police forces in England, Wales and Scotland now require a medical proforma to be submitted as part of your licensing application, no matter if you are applying for a grant or renewing an existing licence.
Many forces require you to submit your report as part of your application paperwork. Your confirmation email will contain details of how to proceed in your area.
MedCert’s administrative offices are in Watlington (Oxfordshire) and Hadleigh (Suffolk), all our doctors are based in the UK.
